Mountain Day of ServiceEach fall the Lees-McRae College community comes together for a day of service as a way of giving back to the High Country. The day culminates in a celebration at Wildcat Lake. On Wednesday, October 12, the Lees-McRae community gathered on Nebel Green for the kickoff of Mountain Day of Service. President Lee King and Riley Smithey, Director of Campus Life, both addressed the crowd and gave direction for how the day would proceed. Spilt into many groups, members of the faculty, staff, and student body all loaded into buses en route to their volunteer destinations. Bobcats volunteered at nearly 40 locations across both Avery and Watauga Counties. Pictured above are two Lees-McRae students who traveled to Boone where they assisted the staff at the county library by pulling weeds in the parking lot. President King was also in Boone with his group at FARM Cafe where they prepped the kitchen and served the community later that day. After a full day of volunteering was complete, the Lees-McRae family gathered at Wildcat Lake for food and fun in the brisk fall air. Wildcat Lake was just recently acquired by the college and served as a scenic celebration spot for all who attended.
